For more than 35 years, State Farm has invested in academic programming, student assistance, and cutting-edge research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). In January 2005, that investment reached a new level with the opening of the State Farm Research and Development Center at the UIUC Research Park.
Creating a facility designed for innovation and inspiration took just four months, but the unique collaboration between State Farm leaders and UIUC faculty has been opening new doors for years.
In 2006, the Research and Development Center facility doubled in size, filling nearly 6,000 square feet with top-notch interns and staff. In 2007, 3,400 square feet was added when the Center for Consumer Feedback opened for business.
So, what’s next for this formidable partnership between prestigious research university and industry leader? Don’t blink. You might miss it.
The scope of disciplines at State Farm is immense. With our close proximity to Corporate Headquarters (Bloomington, Ill.), the State Farm Research and Development Center offers much more than an internship.
Additional opportunities for summer interns provide an inside glimpse into many other areas – from Claims to Communications, Actuarial, Finance, Marketing, and more. The summer program also provides access to Corporate resources designed to help you build mentoring networks and strengthen presentation skills.
The State Farm Research and Development Center is located less than a mile from campus, with continuous free bus service when you use your University of Illinois Student ID.
Most summer interns working at the State Farm Research & Development Center at the University of Illinois will spend a portion of their time working in teams comprised of interns from multiple departments. This cross-disciplinary approach at the RDC - known as innovationREADY® - is designed to be an incubator for research and development of ideas that could spawn business and technology innovation. Most of the past initiatives, although not all, have involved emerging technologies and their potential impact and business application at State Farm.
